A new vision focuses National Geographic Society’s long-term strategy

National Geographic Society

The Challenge
The National Geographic Society (NGS), a nonprofit established in 1888, wanted to take a deep look at the position philanthropy played in its future revenue and growth.

How Carter Helped
We conducted a special study of the history and the present cultural characteristics and philanthropy practices of NGS. The study and counsel provided by Carter helped to focus senior management on a long-term vision for NGS.

The Results
NGS now has a roadmap for what it wants to be and support for that vision across senior management, top volunteers and boards.

“Bob Carter and his colleagues worked closely with National Geographic to help us get an honest, forward-looking approach to our positioning of philanthropy. Through a highly professional process, Bob gave senior management and our Board of Trustees a deeper understanding of how fundraising and philanthropy could be accelerated internally with their increased, focused support.”
